The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has commended the Home Economics Teachers Association of Nigeria (HETAN) for steadfastness and dedication to advancing home economics education over the past five decades.
Making this point, FCTA’s Education Secretary, Dr. Danlami Hayyo noted that the critical role the subject plays in shaping the fabric of the society, which goes beyond management of household, but about equipping individuals especially the young people with essential skills needed to have a healthy, productive and balanced live.
Hayyo, who was represented during the Association’s annual National conference and 50th Anniversary celebration.
Hayyo, who was represented by Deputy Director at the FCTA Department of Quality Assurance, said the subject has remained relevant,dynamic and responsive to the changing needs of the society
He commended the Association’s leadership in FCT for providing being a beacon of excellence and providing advocacy in the promotion of Home economics at all levels of education.
The Education Secretary urged the Association to keeping preparing students to navigate this era of the technological advancement, globalization and complex social challenges by equipping them with knowledge and competencies needed to thrive in a modern and interconnected world.
He assured the Association of the FCT Education Secretariat commitment to supporting home economics education,recognizing the value of the subject and the impact on families and society.
In her goodwill message, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Maryam Mahmoud, commended the Association for always promoting basic practices and enhancing the overall quality of education in this vital area.
Mahmoud, who was represented by Dr. Emmanuel Shuaibu, Director at Department of Quality Assurance, also congratulated the Association for being in the forefront of nurturing and empowering educators.
Earlier, in her welcome address, the HETAN’s FCT Chapter President, Mrs. Rifkatu Lami Yisa advocated for sustained inclusion of home economics as a mandatory subject for educational entrance across the country.
She explained that the subject is a foundational discipline that prepares students to manage their personal and family lives effectively, thereby contributing to socio – economic development of the country.
Noting that Home Economics foster entrepreneurship, she urged the education authorities to recognize the importance of sustaining it within the curriculum as prerequisite for educational advancement.
Furthermore, the FCT Chapter President assured that the Association remain committed to advocating for policies that support the growth and development of the Home Economics Education in Nigeria.
She expressed the Association’s appreciation to the FCT Education Secretariat for their efforts to make sure the subject remain relevant .
Others who spoke commended the Association for its various achievements over the period under review, urging the stakeholders not to relent on charting a course for the future .
The colourful programme which was well attended brought together educators, policy makers and stakeholders, also featured recognition and awards presentation to the individuals for their outstanding contributions to the success of the Association from its inception.
According to her, the technology will also encourage more women to venture into welding industry because the fear of hazards, regarding learning from the scratch has been taken away learning from the scratch has been taken away.
