HFN President, Sam Ocheho in Accra as Bannerman emerges new Ghana Handball President

The President, Handball Federation of Nigeria, HFN, Mr Sam Ochehu was among the observers in Accra, Ghana’s capital on Saturday as the Handball Association of Ghana, HAG elected new executive members

In the election conducted with observers from the African Handball Confederation, CAHB, Mr. Edward Patrick Nii Lante Bannerman was elected the new President of the Handball Association of Ghana 

Bannerman won after polling 26 votes out of 37 from the delegates. 

His closest challenger, Mr. Paul Kofi Yesu polled 10 votes while one vite was voided

Speaking after his victory, Mr. Bannerman urged losing aspirants to join the campaign to take handball in the country to greater heights.

The new president welcomed help from all stakeholders of the handball family as they look to host major competitions in the near future. “Handball in Ghana should be able to get to the level it is expected to be. 

“This is not a win for me, but for handball, and | will plead with everyone to come on board. Handball is a team sport and with you coming on board, | believe it would take a different shape in Ghana,” he said. 

Other members elected to spearhead the activities of the handball association for the next four years include Amma Frimpongmaa (2nd Vice President), William Ghartey (Executive Member), Philip Longdon (Executive Member), among others.

There would be another election for the position of the 1st Vice President and Treasurer as both unopposed candidates couldn’t reach the majority threshold of 50 plus one. 

Speaking after the election, HFN President, Mr Ocheho commended HAG members for the peaceful conduct of the election and charged the new executive to be inclusive and encompassing as they discharge their duties.
