There was a state of pandemonium yesterday at KEKE community of the Kaduna Millennium City in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State as a man took his own life using an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in a desperate attempt to evade arrest by security agencies
The community leader in the area, Malam Samaila, confirmed the incident, noting that the security operatives had barricaded the street to prevent people from approaching the suspect’s house.
Samaila stated that it is likely that the security personnel had trailed the suspect to his residence to arrest him alive. However, realizing that escape was impossible, he decided to take his own life inside the house.
According to eyewitnesses, gunshots were heard at around1 am when officials from the Department of State Services (DSS), soldiers, and the police arrived at the suspect’s residence.
It was discovered that when the man sensed that he was surrounded, he resorted to using explosives to end his life during an exchange of gunfire between him and the security agencies.
A security source revealed to our correspondent that an AK-47
rifle was discovered inside the house, along with two other IEDs that were later safely detonated by the Anti-bomb squad.
The source suggested that the deceased may have been a member of a terrorist group.
“Tragically, the man’s body was mutilated due to the explosive device, while his wife and children were taken away by DSS officials in their vehicles,” the source said.
