Sokoto State has been thrown into shock following two separate tragic incidents that claimed lives within days in the state capital.
In the first incident, a man allegedly stabbed his friend, identified as Malam Usman, popularly known as “Giwa,” to death during a heated argument in the Minanata area of Sokoto metropolis on Sunday.
Eyewitnesses said what began as a verbal disagreement quickly escalated into violence, with the suspect reportedly drawing a knife and stabbing the victim multiple times.
Residents rushed the victim to a hospital, but he was confirmed dead after losing a significant amount of blood.
The killing has sparked outrage among residents, who described the incident as disturbing and uncharacteristic of the area.
In a separate development, tragedy struck again last Friday when a man allegedly threw a child into an open well, resulting in the child’s instant death.
Confirming both incidents, the spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, said all suspects involved have been arrested.
According to him, the suspects are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The incidents have heightened concerns over rising violence, even as residents call for urgent measures to prevent further tragedies.
