How Abuja community got NGO’s medical intervention

A Non Governmental Organization (NGO), JAM Intervention For Vulnerable Children And Climate Change Initiative has offered free medical intervention to Pegi Resettlement Estate, a community in Kuje Area Council of the FCT.
It was gathered that JAM -Initiative organised the medical outreach that catered for over 64 vulnerable persons that included the aged and persons with disabilities.
Speaking during the event, the Founder of the NGO, Mrs. Josie Mudasiru said the outreach became necessary because there was no Government Hospital in Pegi, and the only hospital in Kuje cannot cater for everyone.
This, according to her has led to a lot of people do engage in self medication or patronize quacks as most of these less Privileged people cannot even afford transport fare to Kuje or the City center,nor can they afford the cost of tests and drugs.
A Press release from Publicity Officer of JAM -Initiative, Martha Yusuf Shibayan, revealed that Mudasiru, who explained that the medical outreach was totally free, said: “Free consultation, tests and drugs and we still ensured that beneficiaries got a gift of food pack. You need to eat well for drugs to work.”
Commenting on the source of the NGO’s funding, she said it was basically from her, family and friends and urged Nigerians to be their brothers keeper wherever they find themselves.
The founder was full of appreciation for the medical team who she said all volunteered their time and resources free of charge.
She said it was her desire to reach other vulnerable families in the other Area Councils, and hope to do so in 2024 with more support from well meaning Nigerians.
One of the participants, Mr. Audu Kauna, who spoke in Hausa, said he was very happy with the outreach and appreciate the effort of the organisers.
For David Bitrus from Buzunkure, said he was very happy because he learnt a lot from the Health Talk.
According to him there were so many things he took for granted that he now knows are bad for his health.
A team of Professionals led by Pharmacist Mojisola Kwaghkor , Doctor Salamatu Aminu and Nursing officer, Deborah Itodo, catered to 64 persons benefited from the outreach.
