By Abubakar Yunusa

The Zinariyan Lokoja, Dr Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu has called on protesters to embrace a peaceful approach following the planned nationwide protests scheduled for August 1.

Dr Aliyu said this in a statement made available to journalists.

The Kogi Princess identified with the protesters, stating that the planned protest was ideal, owing to the current state of the nation.

She however advised protesters to have a rethink as the protest could deteriorate, adding that constructive and solution-based engagements are needed to navigate the current situation.

She said, “As we stand at the threshold of a planned protest, I urge us all to have a rethink toward attaining peaceful, solution-based and collaborative engagement — let us work together to build a stronger, more inclusive Nigeria, where every voice is heard and every citizen has the opportunity to thrive.

“To the protesters, I say: your voices matter, and your concerns are valid. The struggles you face, the injustices you’ve endured, and the hopes you hold for a better future are all legitimate. However, let us seek solutions that uplift our nation, rather than tear it down. Embrace dialogue, and let us work hand-in-hand to address the grievances that have led us to this point.”

Highlighting the possible outcome of the protest if nothing was done, she said, “The planned protest is a cry for help, a call to attention, and a demand for change. It’s a reminder that our nation is at a crossroads, and the choices we make today will determine the course of our future.

“If we fail to act, the consequences will be severe, leading to economic instability and stagnation, social unrest and division, political polarization and erosion of trust, human rights violations and abuse of power, brain drain and loss of talent, and international reputation and diplomatic fallout.”

On the part of government, Dr Aliyu stressed the need for proactive actions that ensure inclusivity and the welfare of Nigerians.

“To the government, I say: listen to the voices of the people, and respond with empathy and action. Lead by selfless examples. Foster a responsive democracy that truly serves the needs of all Nigerians. Address the root causes of all discontent, and work tirelessly to build trust and stability.

“On the other hand, if we choose the path of constructive engagement, we can build a more just and equitable society, foster economic growth and prosperity, strengthen our democracy and institutions, promote peace, unity, and social cohesion, unlock the potential of our youth and future generations, and restore Nigeria’s leadership role on the global stage.

“Let us choose the path of wisdom, compassion, and courage. Let us work together to build a Nigeria that works for all, where every citizen can live with dignity, hope, and opportunity. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and future generations to get this right.”
