Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission has provided a number of life jackets to Zhigiri village in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, where seven lives were lost to boat mishap on Zungeru Hydroelectric Dam.
Head, Press and Public Affairs, HYPPADEC. Nura Tanko Wakili in a statement issued said, the commission’s Managing Director, Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa who led the management team in a condolence visit, described the incident as unfortunate and devastating.
He emphasized on the need for the communities to embrace safety measures on maritime transportation, adding that HYPPADEC has already procured ten thousand life jackets for distribution to riverine communities across HYPPADEC states.
Yelwa explained that the commission will continue to collaborate with other sister agencies to protect the lives and property of communities affected by operations of Hydroelectric Dams.
The village Head of Zhigiri Umaru Musa who received the life jackets on behalf of the community express appreciation to the HYPPADEC for leading a team to the village.
