IDPs get succor in Yobe

The National Logistics Committee on the distribution of relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons has delivered a consignment of food and non-food relief items to Yobe state government for onward distribution to IDPs in the state.
Items delivered to the State Government includes,18,968 of 50 kilogram bags of rice, 939 Jerry cans ,of vegetable oil, 8,659 cartons of spaghetti, 133 bales of second hand clothes, palm oil, textile materials, mosquito coils.
Others include 120 pieces of ladies gowns,80 pieces of Jean trousers, 904 pieces of used ladies hand bags, 50 cartons of soap, 20 cartons of Maggi cube, 20 cartons of China tea, among others.
Delivering the materials to the State Governor, Alh. Ibrahim Gaidam, the assistant comptroller-general of customs, Abdulkadir Azarema, said the donation is part of the presidential directive of President Muhammadu Buhari to transfer all seized perishable items to IDPs.
He commended Yobe state government for its support by paying for the cost of transfer of items from various custom ware houses in Damaturu, the state capital.
Receiving the items, the state governor, represented at the occasion by the secretary to the state government, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, commends the foresight of the President for taking the laudable decision to allocate the contraband goods seized by the custom service to people and communities affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast.
He also stated that committing the contra band items for the benefit of the traumatized people who have lost their means of livelihood, assets and properties is the most ideal and compassionate action that should continue to be taken by the federal government regarding the types of food items and goods.
He pointed out that currently, the state has about 1,700 internally displaced persons in one of the remaining official camp at Pompomari primary school in Damaturu, hoping that soon, they too would leave to their original towns and settlements.
