The Police Integrity Movement has accused social media influencer Vincent Otse Martins, popularly known as VDM, of pursuing the Ajiro community murder case with “no iota of truth or justice” during a media briefing in Abuja on Wednesday.
Isaiah Davies Ijele, Convener of the group, alleged that the activist is “deliberately defending suspects in the 2023 killing of two men in Ajiro community in Lagos State, a case that has remained unresolved for years.”
According to Ijele, the matter was ignored by previous Lagos State Commissioners of Police until AIG Moshood Jimoh — then CP of Lagos State Command and now an Assistant Inspector General of Police — “took it upon himself to investigate following the direct instruction of the current Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu.”
“The only crime of the AIG was his resolve to investigate the matter as instructed by the Inspector General of Police and fish out the culprits behind the killings, unlike his predecessors who failed to do so,” Ijele stated.
The Convener disclosed that “the investigation has so far led to the arrest of two men and one Ahmed Tajudeen, believed to be the contractor overseeing the operation and whom VDM has been defending publicly.”
Ijele further alleged that VDM, “who initially challenged him to a public debate on the issue, has now suddenly failed to show up, exposing what he described as the activist’s manipulative intent.”
“It’s obvious he’s now scared I may have the truth, that’s why he’s running away,” Ijele said.
In a more explosive claim, the Convener challenged VDM to “explain to the public how a messenger to the accused Tajudeen became chairman of the Road Transport Workers union in Aja, Lagos, shortly after the killings.”
Ijele alleged that “the job offer was part of the rewards they were promised for the dirty job they carried out.”
Ijele further claimed that “two of the four arrested men have confessed to being promised trips outside the country or other forms of rewards, in addition to the N500,000 cash each was given.”
“VDM is obviously defending the culprits blindly because as we speak, Mascot and Kenny are no where to be found,” Ijele concluded, linking the RTW job offer given to the accused’s messenger as evidence.
The Convener commended the Inspector General of Police for what he described as “meticulous handling of the investigation” and assured the public that “evidence would surface at the appropriate time.”
