The speculation surrounding the contract situation with Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu as Rangers Technical Adviser has been but to rest as the versatile coach has put pen to paper on one-year contract extension
Ilechukwu who has won the Nigeria Premier Football League twice with the club on Saturday signed the contract during a press conference at Rangers headquarters in Enugu.
The coach’s contract was due to expire next year but the signing has extended the relationship till 2026/2027 NPFL season
Ilechukwu put pen to paper to cement the contract at the Rangers office in Enugu on Saturday in the presence of Rangers General Manager, Barr. Amobi Ezeaku.
The Rangers GM, Ezeaku, also confirmed that he will remain as the General Manager of the club.
What made Ilechukwu contract extension possible is because he was able to guide Rangers to lift the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title, securing the club’s ninth league crown and further cementing his reputation as one of the country’s leading coaches.
The Government of Enugu approved the extension following another successful campaign under the 46-year-old, who has now won two NPFL titles with the Flying Antelopes.
The extension has the backing of Rangers General Manager Barr. Amobi Ezeaku and the club’s executive leadership, who view continuity as essential to sustaining the team’s recent success.
Ilechukwu first delivered league glory in the 2023/24 season, guiding Rangers to their eighth NPFL title in his debut campaign at the club.
He followed the success by leading Rangers to another championship in the just-concluded 2025/26 season.
The title was sealed in Lagos after a decisive result against Ikorodu City, giving the Enugu-based club a record-extending ninth league triumph.
Across his managerial career, Ilechukwu has overseen 355 professional matches, recording 155 victories, 76 draws and 124 defeats.
The coach also serves as an assistant coach of the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles.
The contract renewal is expected to provide stability as Rangers prepare to defend their league title and compete in continental football next seasoning.
Before, it wasn’t certain that Ilechukwu would continue with the team even after helping them to lift the NPFL trophy because a certain social medium was harassing the life out of the Technical which the GM had hinted that they would take drastic action against such act.
Therefore, the signing of the contract extension has ended the speculation in some quarters that he might not remain with Rangers.
