A frontline governorship candidate in Benue State under the Social Democratic Party Dr. Stephen Hwande has boasted that he will commission more than 20 projects within the first hundred days in office if elected governor in 2019.
Dr. Hwande who made the boast while speaking with newsmen at the weekend, lamented that the State has continued to suffer systemic collapse.
He decried the decay of social amenities and infrastructures especially industries.
“It requires revenue generation which can be derived from agricultural produce like soya beans, mangoes, rice and irrigation farming. Everybody know that Israel generates it’s revenue from agriculture and India from medical tourism. We can develop our teaching hospital to conduct heart surgery and transplant. We can also, generate revenue from information technology.
Benue is so rich with resources”, he said.
The guber candidate who defected from Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP to the All Progressives Congress, APC and then to SDP, noted that most politicians do not have any indices as they are unable to point at or how they have sacrificed their resources for the people.
“For me, I can boast of employing more than 300 in rice farming, garri factory, IVF and diagnostic. Everyone should show their credentials to the people”, he challenged.
Hwande accused the incumbent governor Samuel Ortom of paddling the wage bill of the State, recalling the same Kpojime Committee that was set by the State government had put the figure at three (3) billion and wondered why it has continued to fluctuate.
While promising to uphold the anti-open grazing law, Hwande regretted the manner the present administration is politicizing security, averring that anyone who wants to be voted on account of one point, is not fit to be governor of the State.
“No governor would want to give an inch of Benue land to anybody or would want to have his people killed. What we should be looking at is the efficiency of the law without broadcasting the strategies to the enemies.
As long as the IDPs are not back to their homes, means that there is room to improve on implementation of the law. Do you become governor to run only one sector? Hwande will be governor that would run more then 20 sectors, security will just be one”, he said confidently.
