The family of the Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, has called for restraint among Nigerians, regarding the stampede at the various recruitment centers for the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), which killed 19 persons.
In a statement signed by Major Agbo, on behalf of the family, they regretted that the death of the 19 applicants appears to have overwhelmed the numerous positive achievements of the minister.
In addition, the family urged the general public to wait for the report of the various investigative committees set up by both the ministry and the National Assembly before condemning anybody.
While commiserating with the bereaved families, the Moro’s family said the Minister has gone down in history as one of the best local government chairmen Benue state in particular and the country in general has had.
They also described the Minister as a man of integrity, honesty, dedication to duty, thoroughness and commitment, even as they expressed surprise over what transpired during the recruitment exercise.
According to the statement, “We urge all Nigerians to please exercise patience to enable the investigation panel come out with findings as to what really went wrong, the findings will be useful to us as a country to avert reoccurrence in future”.
Moro family, which said nobody should be in a hurry to indict the consultancy firm that handled the exercise in order not to preempt the investigative panel already in place, however condemned the shoddy and clumsy fashion with which the exercise was conducted.
