The United Nation Children’s Fund and Civil Society Scaling-up Nutrition in Nigeria have urged the pregnant women in Jigawa State to increase the use of Iron folate supplement.
The CS SUNN advocacy chairperson, Mrs Aji Robinson made the call yesterday at a one- day media dialogue on necessity of iron folate supplementation during pregnancy held at Manpower Development Institute in Dutse the state capital.
She explained that, the programme was organised to create demand for the uptake of iron folate among pregnant mothers through the support of community leaders and media practitioners.
According to her, about 67% of pregnant mothers in Nigeria are facing the risk of Anaemia diseases which cause as a result of inadequate blood before and during the delivery.
Mrs Robinson added that, CS SUNN with support of UNICEF came up with this programme to ensure implementation of IFA in Jigawa and the country at large.
Also while making his presentation, the chairman Jigawa state civil society collation Alhaji Shu’aibu Musa Kafin Gana, said in an effort to save the lives of both pregnant mothers and their children from the risk of death and malnutrition, their organisations convinced state government to released a lot of funds for child health programme.
He then seek more support from both government and other world partners to ensure the safety delivery and healthier children in Jigawa state.
