INEC fixes 11th August for Bauchi bye election

The Independent National Electoral Commission UBEC has fixed eleventh of next month, August 2018, for the conduct of bye-election for Bauchi South Senatorial District.
The seat remains vacant after the death of late Mallam Ali Wakili few months back before the completion of his tenure.
The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi announced the date yesterday during a meeting with Stakeholders at the Commission’s Headquarters in Bauchi.
The Commissioner said the meeting was to intimate the stakeholders on the Commission’s level of preparedness towards the conduct of the Senatorial Elections.
Abdullahi said, the announcement of the date to conduct the bye election followed the formal notification received by the Commission from the leadership of the National Assembly.
Commissioner said the Commission would soon release timetable for the election, enjoined Political Parties to observe the tenant of democracy while conducting their Political Campaigns.
He also charged them to avoid Electoral Offences in their activities to ensure peaceful conduct of the exercise.
The Commissioner, who assured the commitment of the Commission to conduct free and fair election, said adequate Security would be provided for peaceful election.
Alhaji Abdullahi who expressed concern over non- collection of the Permanent Voter’s Card, said only those with Permanent card would be allowed to vote.
Representatives of Political Parties present at the meeting, expressed support with the decision of the Commission to conduct the election on the eleventh of next month.
