Prominent Civil society Orgànisation’, Humanities Welfare and Social Development Initiative (HUWESDI) and coalitions of other Civil Society Organizations, has expressed their confidence over the land mark achievement of the Minister of Works Sen. David Umahi and condemned the unwarranted criticisms directed at the Honourable Minister whose exemplary leadership has led to commendable strides in restructuring the Ministry of Works.
In a statement make available to media yesterday in Abuja. the Executive Director of HUWESDI, Comrade Felix Attah express satisfaction with the performance of the Minister Sen. Engr. Umahi ,as he has demonstrated a sincere commitment to eradicating project fraud, contract manipulation, and unprofessional practices among contractors and ministry officials. His leadership has exposed the depth of negligence and corruption that, for years, has stalled federal road projects across the country. This proactive and transparent approach deserves commendation, not baseless allegations.
“One project that reflects his commitment is the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road—a monumental endeavor that deserves national recognition. However, we are dismayed by disparaging comments circulating in the media since October 28, following his address at the launch of Phase 1B of the Sokoto-Badagary Project. While we understand the frustrations of citizens during challenging economic times, unfairly branding public officeholders as criminals undermines national progress and unity.
We firmly believe that the Honourable Minister and the Federal Government require the support of Nigerians and civil society organizations to fulfill their mandates. HUWESDI, along with other organizations, is committed to fostering public understanding of the Ministry’s efforts and achievements. Through responsible engagement, we can collectively address misinformation, discouraging divisive narratives and promoting transparency.
As civil society advocates, we will not stand by and allow the character of Sen. Engr. David Umahi to be unjustly maligned. His work in the Ministry of Works deserves acknowledgment and support. We urge all Nigerians to join in recognizing these efforts to reform and uplift the nation’s infrastructure sector.
