John Chuma Nwosu, the All Democratic Congress (ADC) gubernatorial candidate for last month’s election in Anambra, has described the last Sunday nights violent attacks at Afor Market Junction in Nawfia community, Njikoka Local Government Area as “distressing” and condemned it in the strongest terms.
In a statement released on Monday, Nwosu highlighted what he described as the “overstretched and inadequate” nature of the current security framework.
“The rising crime rate across Anambra is alarming. It has become increasingly evident that Governor Soludo’s current security architecture is no longer effective.”
The ADC candidate urged the state government to embrace modern, technology-driven security solutions, including real-time surveillance systems, advanced communication networks, and data-driven early-warning tools to prevent threats and enable rapid response.
He further advocated the establishment of a functional command-and-control center, deployment of drones, and installation of AI-enabled facial recognition cameras across the state.
While calling on Ndi Anambra to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, Nwosu emphasized the urgency of overhauling the state’s security measures.
“Technology is the future,” he said, urging Governor Soludo to carefully consider his proposed blueprint for a safer and more secure Anambra.
The Nawfia community, already reeling from the incident, received condolences from Nwosu, who described the attack as a moment of grief for the entire state.
As Anambra grapples with a surge in violent crimes, the call for modern, tech-based security solutions raises pressing questions about the state’s readiness to protect its citizens in an increasingly complex security landscape.
