The Coalition for Equity and Good Governance, a Civil Society Organisation (CSO) has charged the newly appointed Service Chiefs of the various Nigeria’s security formations, to always work together to get rid of the menace of banditry and insurgency bedevilling the country.
It also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the swift appointment of Service Chiefs, as it will help boost efforts at tackling prevailing insecurity challenges.
The group asserted this during a recent press conference in Abuja, where they described the development as a clear departure from past administrations where sensitive positions are left vacant after the exit of their predecessors.
The National Coordinator of the group, Mallam Abubakar Ibrahim, maintained that the prompt appointment was a clear indication of President Tinubu’s commitment towards addressing the security challenges facing the country.
The Coordinator, while also commending the President for ensuring that equity and competence was observed in the appointment of the new service chiefs, reminded them that the task ahead was enormous, as the safety and security of over 200 million Nigerians rest in their hands, saying that it would not hesitate to call them out if they fail to deliver.
“The President has hitherto made commitment to Nigerians that religion and ethnicity will not find a place in his government, but competence and character will. And he has just demonstrated that in his recent appointments”, Abubakar stressed.
While congratulating the newly appointed Military Chiefs,
Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had on June 19, 2023, approved the immediate retirement of all Service Chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police, Advisers, Comptroller-General of Customs from Service as well as their replacements with immediate effect.
A statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, also announced the appointment of Maj. Gen. Christopher Musa as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Maj.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja as Chief of Army Staff.
Tinubu also appointed Rear Adm. E.A Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff and Air Vice Marshal Hassan Abubakar, as Chief of the Air Staff, while Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Undiandeye was appointed Chief of Defence Intelligence among others.
