Insecurity: Niger govt resuscitates law restricting motorcycle in Minna, environs

Date:

From Yakubu Mustapha, Minna.

Niger State government has announced that it has commenced resuscitation of the law restricting movement of motorcycles from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. in Minna and environs.
This was contained in a statement issued by Secretary to the Government of Niger State (SSG), Ahmed Ibrahim Matane who warned commercial motorcyclists, popularly called Okada and other operators of motorcycles in Minna and environs to desist from carrying more than one passenger at a time.
Matane further called on the operators of tricycles to also desist from overloading of their tricycles, adding that the resuscitation of the law restricting movement of motorcycles in Minna and environs which will commence on Saturday, 15th February, 2020 became necessary following polarized security situation in the state, signposted by sustained violent attacks, abduction and killing of mostly innocent citizens by bandits, kidnappers and cattle rustlers.
“All motorcycles and tricycles operators must ensure that they obtain plate number from Board of Internal Revenue, this is in line with the amended Niger State Road Transport Traffic Law 2015” the statement stated.
“Niger State which had long been reputed as the most peaceful State in the country today has that status put to a tricky test by armed bandits, therefore all hands must be on deck to secure the State from the unnecessary security challenges that it has witnessed for some time now” he added.
He called on motorcycles and tricycles operators in Minna and environs to adhere strictly to the order as security agencies have been directed to enforce the restriction and anybody found violating the order would face the full wrath of the law.
