Insecurity: Task Force bans ceremonies in Kano private schools

The Kano state Task Force committee on private schools has said it has banned ceremonies held in private schools across the state.

Private schools in the state hold end of year ceremonies, such as Speech and Prize-giving Day, Graduation ceremonies, among other ceremonies at the schools’ premises.

However, Chairman of the committee, Baba Abubakar Umar, said that the ceremonies have been indefinitely suspended following security challenges in the state.

Umar, who made the disclosure at a live programme, titled: “Zaman Y’an marina”, monitored on Rahama Radio 97.3 FM in Kano yesterday, said the decision became imperative as the occasion involved crowds of people at a particular place and that hoodlums could seize the opportunity to wreck havoc on them.

He added that the committee is saddled not only with the responsibility of checking the activities of the schools, but also to ensure that they operate under conducive atmosphere.

He said, “Our committee has resolved to ban all forms of ceremonies held at the private schools due to security challenges in this state. We don’t want risk the lives and properties of our people. These ceremonies involve gathering of children and their parents at schools’ premises.

“Hoodlums could seize the opportunity to wreck havoc at the places. So our committee has resolved to indefinitely suspend ceremonies until peace is restored in the state. We regret any inconveniences this may have caused the public”.

The chairman also warned the students, particularly females, against wearing tight uniforms and short Hijab in schools, stressing that on resumption to the next term, the committee would conduct inspection tour to the schools to ensure the directives are strictly complied to.

He called on parents to restrain their daughters against the act, noting that schools are not places of fashion, but places for education and morality.
