The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the protection, empowerment, and inclusion of the Nigerian girl child.
He gave this assurance during his remark at an event in marking the International Day of the Girl Child held in Abuja .
He further emphasized the role of mentorship and the need for inter-ministerial cooperation to support young girls.
According to him, the current administration is making deliberate investments in programs that amplify the voices, rights, and strengths of the girl child.
He acknowledged the challenges faced by millions of girls in Nigeria, including poverty, early marriage, and limited access to education.
The Minister called for governments, families, educators, and advocates to work harder to dismantle barriers that prevent girls from achieving their dreams.
Similarly, the Special Adviser to the President on Youth Initiatives, Titilope Gbadamosi, has called for deliberate efforts to support girls’ leadership and address systemic barriers that limit their potential across Nigeria.
Speaking at an event to mark the International Day of the Girl Child, Gbadamosi praised the leadership qualities displayed by girls in classrooms, communities, and public spaces.
She emphasized that with the right support, girls continue to demonstrate growth and the ability to drive meaningful change in society.
She highlighted the need to address the different structural challenges faced by girls in rural and urban settings, stressing that their experiences are not the same and require targeted interventions.
Gbadamosi pointed out that when girls are equipped with tools, provided with protection, and given platforms to express themselves, the results are transformative not just for the individuals, but for entire communities. She noted that this kind of investment leads to lasting systemic change.
She also stressed the importance of accountability and institutional responsibility in protecting girls from violence and discrimination.
According to her, government agencies and stakeholders must do more to ensure a safe and enabling environment for girls to thrive.
