The Director General of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Professor Oshita O. Oshita has underscored the need for personnel of strategic organizations in Nigeria to acquire peace building and mediation skills.
Oshita said Nigeria has been under stress occasioned by varying conflicts but expressed the hope that the insecurity challenges are surmountable if we build armies of peace practitioners.
This was contained in a statement released yesterday by the Institute in Abuja and signed by Media Assistant to the DG, IPCR, Mr. Abu I. Michael.
According to the statement, Professor Oshita said this while declaring open a weeklong Peacebuilding, Conflict Management and Transformation Course for staff of the Victim Support Fund (VSF) at the Institute in Abuja.
He thanked the management of VSF for finding the need of sending their staff to the National Peace Academy (NPA) noting that the knowledge would definitely impact positively on their day-today work towards healing the wounds of the country.
Earlier, the Head of the academy, Dr. Bosede Awodola remarked that 15 staffers of the organization were undergoing the course. She said the course was a specialized one, and that the academy could always design modules to suit the skill acquisition needs of every agency.
