Former Super Eagles Handler, Gernot Rohr says the duo of Alex Iwobi and Moses Simon don’t get the respect they deserve for their contribution to the national team of Nigeria.
Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi and Paris FC winger Moses Simon are part of the squad that will face Portugal in a high profile friendly later tonight
Both players were key to Rohr’s team during his time as coach of the Eagles and while Iwobi will be making his 100th appearance for the three-time Africa Champions, Simon will get his 99th as well.
And Rohr who currently manages the Cheetahs of Benin Republic believes the duo are not respected enough for their impacts in the team
” Iwobi and Simon are always available and give their best always. Ready to play in multiple roles for the team. They don’t get the respect they deserve for what they have done for the senior national team of Nigeria.
”I see Iwobi getting a 100 caps and that’s not a small number to have in a National team and Simon is also close to that milestone. They have really made Super Eagles better and I tell them congratulations for this milestone and wish them many more in the coming years”, he stated.
Nigeria will take on Portugal by 8:45pm today in a match that serves as preparations for both teams’ targets. While Portugal is heading to the World Cup and needs the game to prepare against DR Congo in one of their Group matches, Nigeria will use the match to try new faces and also get ready for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON qualifiers
