The Joint Action Movement of Nigeria (JAMN) has strongly criticized former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s involvement in the ongoing dispute between National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and Hajiya Najatu Mohammed.
In a statement issued on Friday, JAMN leaders Lawal Sani Ningi and Deborah Kantiok condemned El-Rufai’s intervention, describing it as an example of political maneuvering rather than a constructive contribution.
They argued that his comments, characterized by “derogatory language and a blatant disregard for factual integrity,” underscored his unsuitability for statesmanship.
The controversy stems from allegations made by Najatu Mohammed in a viral TikTok video, in which she claimed that Ribadu, during his tenure as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), vowed to obstruct the political ambitions of several prominent figures, including President Bola Tinubu, George Akume, and Orji Kalu. She labeled them among Nigeria’s most corrupt politicians.
Ribadu has denied these claims and challenged Mohammed to provide evidence, warning of potential legal consequences for unverified accusations.
El-Rufai entered the debate in apparent support of Mohammed’s allegations.
However, JAMN criticized his approach, accusing him of resorting to personal attacks and inflammatory rhetoric rather than addressing the core issues.
JAMN further questioned El-Rufai’s credibility, highlighting his past legal troubles. Reports suggest he is facing allegations of financial misconduct from the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
The group suggested that his intervention in the Ribadu-Mohammed dispute might be a distraction from his own challenges.
“Instead of reflecting on his past actions, he has chosen a path of confrontation and unsubstantiated claims,” the statement read.
JAMN also pointed to El-Rufai’s failed bid for a ministerial position, saying his candidacy was withdrawn due to ethical concerns.
The group accused him of attempting to rewrite history, positioning himself as a “messiah for the North” despite allegations of dehumanization and misgovernance during his tenure in Kaduna State.
JAMN urged the public to critically assess El-Rufai’s statements, describing them as the actions of a “discredited figure clinging to relevance.”
They called on Nigerians to focus on substantial national issues and engage in informed, responsible discourse.
“The future of our nation demands leaders who prioritize integrity and responsibility over personal ambition,” the group emphasized.
