Supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State on Tuesday staged a peaceful protest, calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the party’s national leadership under David Mark.
The protesters converged on INEC’s office in Dutse, the state capital, where they submitted a petition without any reported disruption.
The development comes amid escalating internal wrangling within the party and shifting political alignments ahead of party primaries and the next general elections.
Speaking with journalists after the protest, the ADC Youth Leader in the state, Manniru Aminu, criticised INEC’s involvement in the leadership dispute, insisting that the commission lacks the constitutional authority to interpret court rulings.
He maintained that such responsibilities rest solely with the judiciary.
Aminu further alleged that INEC’s actions suggest bias, warning that it could erode public confidence in the electoral process.
The protesters insisted that the leadership of the party under David Mark remains the only legitimate and constitutionally recognised structure.
They urged INEC to immediately update its official records to reflect the Mark-led leadership, tender a public apology, and sanction any officials found culpable of alleged partiality.
