Jigawa Assembly moves to reintroduce Polling Unit Fund

From Mika’il Tsoho, Dutse

The Community Development Funds bill presented before the Jigawa State House of Assembly has scaled second reading in the house.
The move followed by the state government’s request for the establishment of community development fund known as “polling unit fund or Kudin Akwati” across the 278 wards in the state.
It could be recalled that, the Community development fund programme was earlier established by the former administration of ex-governor Saminu Turaki in the state.
Speaking shortly after the sitting, the member representing Yankwashi constituency at the State assembly. Hon. AbdulRahman Alkassim, stressed the need for the speedy passage of the Bill.
According to him, reintroducing the polling Unit grant will facilitate smooth running of governance in the third tier of the government, which he described as closer to the electorates.
He added that the monthly participatory polling unit fund, established by previous administration of Ex-governor Saminu Turaki, has yielded positive impact to the lives of Jigawa people, citing examples with some physical projects executed with the fund across the local governments of the state.
His words: “The bill when approved into law will facilitate, as well as ease untold hardship being faced by some communities in minor repairs of existing structures such as boreholes, open wells, schools and mosques renovations in their areas without requesting their local government to do so.”
‘Yankwashi then called on members to consider this request for the betterment and development of their constituencies and the electorates. “The burden on us will reduce, as fund was set aside for the repairs of projects and execution of more projects, and thereby enhance human development,” he stressed.
