No fewer than 15 groups that live along Rivers Hadejia/Jama’are wetland in Jigawa State have received Typher grasses clearing tools worth millions of naira from Jigawa State government.
The state Commissioner of Environment, Alhaji Ibrahim Baba Chaichai dropped the hint yesterday during the distribution of the equipment held at Miga local government area of the state.
He said, the tools that include eight canoes, 3,000 empty bags, cutlasses and shavels, spanplats were donated freely to these groups to clear typher grasses.
The commissioner who represented the Deputy Governor Umar Namadi at the occasion said the tools meant for all the groups in LGAs laying within the Jigawa wetland.
He said the tools were purchased by Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar with the view to assist in clearing all the water blockages along rivers Hadajia/Jama’are.
Speaking, the council chairman of Miga local government area, Mohammadu Abubakar urged the beneficiaries to make use of the materials in order to serve the purpose of which they were provided for.
Also the Special Assistant to Governor Badaru on Empowerment, Community and Social Inclusion, Honorable Hamza Muhammad said this gesture is meant to be reciprocated by the people because a substantial amount was used in purchasing them.
