The Jigawa State government and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on Thursday, signed a multi-year work plan for 2025 – 2027.
Speaking before the signing of the work plan, Governor Malam Umar Namadi said the collaboration with UNICEF is expected to support health, Water Sanitation and Hygiene, nutrition as well as education sectors.
Governor Namadi said, UNICEF as the oldest partner with Jigawa since the creation of the state, said their intervention impacted the children in Jigawa by reduction of stunted rate in the state.
According to him, the UNICEF interventions is in line with his administration’s twelve points agenda aimed at improving life of the children and ensuring their protection and brighter future.
He then urged the stakeholders particularly at the local government level , traditional/religious leaders, parents, Civil Society Organizations and media to cooperate for the successful implementation of the work plan.
While making his remarks, Mr. Rahama Rihood Mohammed Farah, Chief of UNICEF Field Office Kano said, the partnership between Jigawa government and UNICEF, has delivered remarkable results, particularly in enhancing immunization outcomes.
Farah maintained that, the partnership yielded a positive results like allocation of resources to programmes that impact the lives of children and women, especially in the sectors of health, nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene.
“The plan is a comprehensive framework that will guide our collective efforts in the critical areas of health, nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), education, child protection, and social policy”, he said.
