Jigawa state government has called on the federal government to reintroduce school feedings of primary schools’ pupils (Home Grown Feeding program).
The call was made by the executive chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) professor Haruna Musa while speaking to journalists on measures to address out of school children challenges in Jigawa state.
According to him, the Jigawa State government under the leadership of Malam Umar Namadi has made enough provisions for the home grown feedings in the 2025 approved budget.
He explained that, the home grown feeding is a federal government policy complemented by the state government in which the project had been stopped as a result of the seizure of federal government counterpart funds provisions.
“feeding of the primary schools’ pupils is a joint programme between the federal and state governments where the federal government provides funds for the feedings of pupils from primary one to three to all states in the federation, while the Jigawa government feeds the remaining pupils of primary four to six”.
“In expectation of the continued of the programme, governor Malam Umar Namadi is making provisions for the funds in all his annual budget. He (governor) made the provision in the 2024 budget and made the same in 2025. The governor added more money in this year’s budget to take care of possible high cost of prices”.
