The Jigawa state government, yesterday, said it recruited 1,564 teachers for senior secondary schools across the State in the last six years.
The state Commissioner for Education, Prof. Haruna Wakili, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Dutse.
He said the employment, which started in 2008, was done by the administration of Gov. Sule Lamido to address shortage of qualified teachers in the state prior to his assumption of office in 2007.
He said all those recruited were graduates of various disciplines.
The commissioner said the state government had been collaborating with the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) for continuous training of teachers to improve their quality.
“Apart from our partnership with institutes like NTI, we equally encourage and support our teachers who are interested in further education’’, he said.
According to him, 440 classrooms in various senior secondary schools were renovated within six years to make the environment conducive for learning.
Wakili said more than 90 laboratories were constructed to improve the teaching and learning of core science subjects.
The commissioner added that the present administration was committed to providing quality education so that the children would have a better future. (NAN)
