The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has formally rejected the results of the recently concluded by-election in the Babura/Garki Federal Constituency, citing alleged irregularities and electoral malpractice.
In a statement signed by the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Umar Kyari Jitau Madamuwa, the party condemned the conduct of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the election.
The PDP claimed that the ruling APC manipulated the process by leveraging state resources, engaging in widespread vote buying, and intimidating voters throughout the election period. According to the statement, these actions compromised the integrity of the electoral process and robbed the PDP of a mandate freely given to it by the people.
“We have carefully studied the preparations, conduct, and execution of the by-election, and we have come to the conclusion that the process was flawed and heavily compromised,” the statement read.
The party urged its supporters and all lovers of democracy across the state to remain calm and law-abiding as it explores all legal and political avenues to challenge the outcome and reclaim what it described as its “stolen mandate.”
The Babura/Garki by-election was held last Saturday following the vacancy created in the federal constituency. INEC has yet to respond to the PDP’s claims.
