As part of efforts to ensure full compliance with the electronic payment of taxes and levies through the Remita and Pay Direct Platforms, the executive Chairman, Jigawa state Internal Revenue Service, Malam Nasiru Sabo Idris held a meeting with all the directors of the agency, zonal directors, area officers and other stakeholders in revenue service.
Speaking during the meeting, the executive Chairman, said the stakeholders engagement aimed at reviewing the progress made in the collection of the reinforced Consumption Tax, with a view to adopt the same method in the collection of Direct Assessment Tax.
“To ensure the success of this initiative, the agency will engage the Jigawa State Enlightenment and Engagement Tax Team (JEET) in the collection of direct assessment tax, through the use of electronic payment system as part of effort to block the revenue leakages”, he said.
Malam Nasiru Sabo Idris emphasized that the introduction of JEET has led to the improvement of tax awareness and increased the tax payers database from 5,000 in 2023 to over 15,000 in 2024.
He also unveiled the agency’s plans to organize sensitization programmes and media awareness campaigns to enlighten the tax payers on how to pay their taxes electronically for transparency and accountability in the process.
During the meeting there was a question and answer session from the participants, to allow deep understanding of the new policies introduced to harmonize the revenue collection in Jigawa State.
