In a move that significantly alters the political landscape of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Minister for Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, Hon. Zaphaniah Bitrus Jisalo, yesterday officially received a former two-term Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC,), Hon. Micah Yohanna Jiba into the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The ceremony, held at the Apo Resettlement Town-hall, marked the formal entry of Jiba, the mmediate past representative for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency.
Recall that Jiba recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing internal party disarray as his reason for departure.
Jisalo, who serves as the APC leader in the FCT, described the day as a “fulfillment” of a long-term vision.
Reflecting on his own journey of sacrifice within the party, Jisalo noted that he had been “preparing the way” for Jiba’s arrival.
“Today, my heart is fulfilled. “I was in APC to prepare a way for you… even if the road is blocked, I am ready to accept you.
“He is coming today with the same ranking as those who joined years ago. We are all together”, Jisalo declared.
He also used the platform to pivot toward the upcoming FCT Area Council elections, asserting his leadership in ensuring a “landslide victory” across AMAC, Bwari, Kuje, Abaji, Gwagwalada, and Kwali.
He further reaffirmed his loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging supporters to remain steadfast.
Similarly, the incumbent Chairman of AMAC, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, echoed the Minister’s sentiments, characterizing Jiba as a strategic asset.
“Politics is all about interests. He is bringing a wealth of experience and his massive support base. With him, the APC will record landslide victories”, he stated
On his part, FCT APC Chairman, Hon. Abdulmalik Usman, added that while the party had expected this defection much earlier, the timing is perfect as the party gears up for the electoral cycle.
For Jiba, the move represents a permanent shift in his political career. Addressing the crowd, the former lawmaker emphasized his commitment to his new political home.
“I can’t stay in a party that’s having numerous issues”, Jiba said, referring to the PDP.
“Now that I am in APC, there is no going back. I will work for the success of the party and contribute my quota to its development”, he stressed.
