President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday postponed the inauguration of his Presidential Campaign Organisation, billed to be held at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s Legacy House in Abuja.

The President could not attend the event because he was bereaved.

Jonathan lost his only sister, Nancy Jonathan Olei, last Sunday in a Bayelsa hospital and there are indications the he was in low spirit.

Party bigwigs were already seated waiting for the arrival of the President when Jonathan’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Prof. Rufa’i Alkali announced the postponement.

Alkali apologised to those present, saying the postponement was inevitable.

He said, “As you are all aware, His Excellency (the President) lost his sister, Mrs. Nancy Jonathan-Olei, yesterday (Sunday) in the morning.

“In view of this, he has decided to suspend this inauguration for today until tomorrow at 11am.

“Mr. President has asked me to convey his apologies for the inconveniences this postponement has caused, and to tell you it was due to circumstances beyond our control.”
