Journalists in the country have been urged to make positive contribution towards peace management by helping to create conditions that allow for the interest and need of various parties to be met.
They have also been told to adopt a conflict sensitive approach in an engaging and compelling manner.
This formed the outcome of a State-level strategic stakeholders engagement workshop entitled; ‘For Effective Early Warning, Early Response System in Nigeria’, organized by USAID/Mercy Corps Nigeria for media practitioners in Benue and Nasarawa States.
Lead facilitator and Chief of Party, Mercy Corps Nigeria
Danjuma Dawop attributed the causes of conflict to struggle for resources, psychological as well as trampling on the values of a people.
He however, noted that conflicts cannot be resolved without management skills, adding that the media need to have conflict management skills for a conflict to be sustainably resolved.
