The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has deferred plan to resume its suspended industrial action initially scheduled for October 2, 2014.
According to the National president of JUSUN, comrade Marwan Mustapha Adamu, who disclosed this in Abuja, the plan is emphasise on their demand for the realization of the Federal High Court judgment, on the financial autonomy of the Judiciary.
The president also condemned the attack on a Judge in Ekiti state by hooligans, calling on the authority to probe the matter and make sure that those behind the ugly situation receive adequate punishment.
He said the union would soon take decision on the matter, which according to him should not put the Judiciary in a bad light before the international community. “The decision of the union to shelve the plan strike by the first week of October was premised on the ongoing discussion with stakeholders to resolve the impasse,” he said.
Comrade Marwan Adamu however described as “unfortunate”, the statement credited to the Governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Fashola that “the Judiciary’s autonomy is not realistic”.
He said, “These comments are regarded as unfortunate and embarrassing, coming from a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), who should be at fore in protecting the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria. “The Judiciary, being his primary constituency as “lawyer”, it is rather absurd for Chief Fashola (SAN), now Governor, to sit in his Government House (chambers) and say that the workability of the Constitution of Nigeria which he swore to uphold and, the obedience, compliance with or and implementation of an order/judgment of a competent Court is not realistic and or unrealistic.”
