The Kano Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KACCIMA), has decried the mode of tax collection by agencies in Kano State.
In a communique of the 2-day Commencement Retreat in Kaduna State, on 26-28th January, KACCIMA called on the state government to review its policy on multiple taxation, noting that “the policy invariably leads to the closure of so many businesses in the state. “
The communique, signed by the Director General, KACCIMA, Tijjani Aliyu, also called on governments to be compassionate and considerate in their drive for revenue generation, to checkmate the negative consequences associated with closure of businesess.
The communique also warned that the closure of businesses would trigger and generate more unemployment and insecurity in the commercial state.
“ Government should review its policy on multiple taxation which invariably leads to closure of so many businesses in Kano State.
“Government should accord more priority to the execution of projects through other funding alternative offered by the public private partnership.
“Government should critically look into providing workable solutions to street hwkings in Kano State, “ the communique said.
The communique also emphasized on the need for public enlightenment and sensitisation on the benefits of partnership in business to business and business to government.
The communique further stated that the retreat appreciated and commended the efforts of the administration of governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje towards supporting business communities, as well as execution of commercially oriented projects.
