Kaduna Deputy Gov’s wife donates 200 eye glasses to virtually impaired

Mrs Ladi Bala-Bantex, wife of Kaduna State Deputy Governor has screened 300 people for eye related problems and donated 200 eyes glasses free to those with eye problems.
Mrs Bala-Bantex told newsmen in Kaduna yesterday that the beneficiaries were reached in Manchok, Kaura Local Government Area of the State through her NGO, Second Chance Initiative (SCI).
She added that the gesture, conducted in collaboration with Free Medical Outreach, an NGO, also offered free medical services to the people of the area that lasted for three days.
According to her, people who tested positive to various aliment were given drugs and other health tips; and therapy for those suffering from stroke and all forms of back pain.
“Not only that, we equally enlightened the people on good nutrition practices for pregnant women and infant and young children; and good dietary habit for the elderly and the aged.
“We realised that children under-five years were malnourished, not because there was no food but because most caregivers do not how to prepare nutritious meal using available food items around them.
“We saw the need to encourage people to cultivate vegetable gardens around the house and use the fruits available in most of their backyard in feeding their children.
“The people equally cultivates groundnuts, beans and other crops, which a reasonable portion could be kept for feeding the family.”
She said that the free medical services was a continued exercise, targeting rural dwellers and the forgotten in communities with a view to improving their quality of lives.
She explained that the gesture was part of the NGO’s efforts in reaching out to those in need, particularly the girl child, the destitute and the aged.
“Our main objective is to help them meet their basic needs and provide them with information that would help them live a quality life.
“Our focus is the girl child, the most vulnerable group in our societies who dropped out of school, the uneducated married women and single mothers, and youths who do drugs.
“The goal of Second Chance Initiative is to give these categories of people a second chance in life to do thing differently and turn their lives around for good,” She said.
