Kaduna govt, NIOB to partner on building collapse -EL-Rufai

Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, said the state has a zero tolerance on building collapse, so it will ensure that buildings are up to standard and built by professional builders.
He stated this during a rally by the Nigerian Institute of Building, (NIOB), to mark the First World Builders’ Day in Kaduna yesterday.
El-Rufai said it is time to put an end to building crises because most collapsed buildings are not managed by professionals, saying his administration will work with NIOB to ensure that the state is free of building collapse hazards.
The Governor who was represented by Director of Admin and Finance, Kaduna State Ministry of Housing, Muhammad Tajuddeen, said the state holds NIOB in high esteem and we’ll continue to partner with them.
The National President of NIOB, Kunle Awobodu, while speaking said the maiden Builders’ Day in Nigeria is the D-Day for the promotion of standard building construction that should add value to the dream of prospective homeowners.
Awobodu who was represented by the Kaduna state chairman of NIOB, BLDR AbdulRashid Sirajo, said Professional Builders’ must take their rightful place in the building production process and strive to meet the expectations of the Nigerian people in the constant and successful delivery of quality, affordable, safe and durable buildings.
“Any nation bereft of Building codes is vulnerable to inappropriate building construction. Stakeholders in the Nigerian Built Environment have, for long, been orchestrating the need for building construction in Nigeria to be guided by the National Building Code,” he said.
