The Kaduna State Government has announced plans to establish a permanent orientation camp for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the state.
Governor Uba Sani disclosed this on Friday through the State Commissioner for Youth Development, Barrister Gloria Ibrahim, during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp, Government College, Kaduna.
The governor reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to the welfare, security and overall wellbeing of corps members deployed to Kaduna.
Welcoming the corps members, Sani described their deployment to the state as a bold response to the call to national service, urging them to embrace the opportunity to contribute to the development of the state and the country.
> “It is a great joy to welcome you all to Kaduna State today. I consider it a distinct privilege to stand among you as we mark this remarkable milestone in your lives,” he said.
The governor described Kaduna as a state characterised by diverse cultures, resilient people and a strong commitment to peace, innovation and sustainable development.
He urged the corps members to familiarise themselves with the culture and values of their host communities while ensuring that their contributions leave a positive impact.
According to him, the three-week orientation course is designed to equip corps members with leadership skills, discipline, teamwork, entrepreneurial knowledge and patriotic values needed for their year-long national service.
Sani charged the corps members to maintain high standards of discipline and integrity throughout their service year.
> “As representatives of your families, schools, and states, I charge you to uphold integrity, discipline, and exemplary conduct at all times. Adhere to camp rules, respect authority, and build friendships that promote unity and peaceful living,” he said.
The governor also assured the corps members that the Kaduna State Government would continue to collaborate with the NYSC management and security agencies to provide a safe and supportive environment for them.
He said the proposed permanent orientation camp was part of measures to improve the experience and welfare of corps members serving in the state.
> “The Kaduna State Government stands firmly with the NYSC in creating a safe and supportive environment where you can live, serve, and thrive. To further improve your experience, we are taking concrete steps toward establishing a permanent orientation camp for Corps Members,” Sani said.
He urged the corps members to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
Sani subsequently declared the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II NYSC Orientation Course in Kaduna State officially open.
NYSC seeks continued government support
Earlier, the NYSC Kaduna State Coordinator, Mrs Efeke Murna Dadaza, welcomed the governor and expressed appreciation to the Kaduna State Government for its continued support for the scheme.
Dadaza, who spoke on behalf of the NYSC Director-General and management team, commended the state government for its commitment to the objectives of the scheme.
> “On behalf of the Director-General and top management team of NYSC, I express our profound appreciation to the Government and people of Kaduna State, under the able leadership of His Excellency, the Executive Governor, for his unwavering commitment to the ideals and objectives of the NYSC Scheme,” she said.
She reminded the prospective corps members that the swearing-in ceremony marked the commencement of their year-long commitment to national service, civic responsibility, unity and patriotism.
> “Today is more than a ceremonial event; it marks the beginning of your year-long commitment to national service, civic responsibility, and the enduring ideals of unity and patriotism upon which the National Youth Service Corps was established,” she stated.
According to her, the three-week orientation programme would include physical training, leadership and citizenship lectures, skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development, sporting activities, drills and cultural programmes.
She urged the corps members to participate actively in all camp activities and comply with the rules and regulations governing the orientation course.
“Discipline remains the bedrock of the NYSC Scheme. You are therefore expected to obey camp rules and regulations, respect constituted authority, demonstrate good conduct, and relate harmoniously with one another,” Dadaza said.
The NYSC coordinator further assured the corps members that their welfare and security remained a top priority, advising them to maintain security consciousness throughout the orientation programme and their service year.
Government officials, representatives of security agencies, NYSC officials and other stakeholders attended the swearing-in ceremony.
