Kaduna Govt Sets Up Committees to Distribute 500 Truckloads of Fertiliser

The Kaduna State Government has established the State Committee for the 2026 Fertiliser Distribution Exercise to oversee the distribution of 500 truckloads of fertiliser to farmers across the state, with strict accountability measures in place to prevent diversion.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Murtala Dabo, disclosed this on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, following the committee’s inaugural meeting in Kaduna.

According to Dabo, the distribution exercise was officially flagged off by Governor Uba Sani, CON, as part of the administration’s efforts to boost agricultural productivity, enhance food security, and cushion the impact of rising input costs on farmers.

Under the programme, he said fertiliser is being distributed free of charge to eligible smallholder farmers, while large-scale and commercial farmers will benefit from a 50 per cent subsidy to support increased agricultural production.

“Today’s inaugural meeting focused on operational guidelines, coordination mechanisms, and accountability measures to ensure that this vital initiative is implemented efficiently, transparently, and in strict compliance with the directives of His Excellency,” Dabo said.

He explained that the State Committee was deliberately constituted to ensure broad stakeholder representation. Its members include officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), security agencies such as the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KADVS), as well as anti-corruption agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The committee also includes representatives of traditional institutions, faith-based organisations, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Women in Agriculture, private-sector agricultural extension service providers, and other key stakeholders.

Similarly, Dabo said Local Government Distribution Committees have been established in all 23 Local Government Areas of the state. The committees comprise representatives of the local government councils, members of the National and State Assemblies (where applicable), senior political appointees, traditional rulers, AFAN, security agencies, the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

“The broad-based composition of these committees underscores the Governor’s strong commitment to transparency, inclusiveness, and accountability,” the Commissioner said.

“By involving respected institutions from across society, the Government has put in place a robust oversight mechanism to ensure that fertiliser reaches genuine farmers—those who truly need it—while minimising the risk of diversion or misuse.”

Dabo assured residents that every stage of the distribution exercise would be closely monitored.

“The Ministry of Agriculture will work closely with the State and Local Government Distribution Committees to ensure strict compliance with approved guidelines, proper documentation of beneficiaries, and transparent reporting throughout the process,” he added.

He urged committee members to discharge their responsibilities with integrity, fairness, and a strong sense of public service. He also called on farmers and members of the public to cooperate with the committees and report any irregularities through the appropriate channels.

“The Kaduna State Government remains committed to supporting our farmers and ensuring that every intervention translates into increased productivity, improved livelihoods, and enhanced food security across the state,” Dabo concluded.
