Kaduna Gov’t trains MDAs ahead of 2027 budget to boost speed, accuracy

The Kaduna State Government has commenced refresher training for officials across its Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) ahead of the 2027 budget cycle, aiming to ensure a seamless, error-free, and people-centered process.
Speaking at the session, the State Commissioner for Planning and Budget, Muktar Ahmed Morovia, explained that the annual training locally referred to as waiwai adon tafiya is designed to align officers with evolving government policies, digital budgeting tools, and strategic priorities before formal budget preparation begins.
A central focus of the exercise is bridging technical knowledge gaps, particularly regarding the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) that forms the foundation of the state’s fiscal planning.
According to Ahmed, a lack of familiarity with the MTEF and Planning and Budget Commission procedures often leads to avoidable delays.
“If they don’t understand that… it creates a lot of delays, and this is not what we want.
“Delays by a single agency can stall the entire budget process,” Ahmed warned, emphasizing that early training prevents critical operational bottlenecks.
The Commissioner noted that the interactive sessions allow the Budget Office to gather feedback directly from field officers regarding agency-specific challenges, creating a two-way learning environment.
Ahmed stressed that efficient budget formulation directly translates to improved public service delivery, enhanced infrastructure, and impactful social programs for Kaduna residents.
He reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to continuous capacity development to maintain transparency, efficiency, and timely budget execution.
With the capacity-building phase concluded, the Kaduna State Government is set to begin full engagement with MDAs on their 2027 budget proposals.
