Kaduna kicks-off distribution of textbooks to primary schools

Kaduna State Government has commenced the distribution of 1,015,523 textbooks and other library materials to primary and junior secondary schools across the state.

The 1,015,523 textbooks in the core subjects of English Language, Mathematics, Social Studies and Basic Science and Technology are part of the instructional materials allocated to the state by the Federal

Government though the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

Making the symbolic distribution of the textbooks to Headmasters in Kaduna North and Kaduna South local government areas yesterday, Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero warned against the diversion of the books, warning that, anyone found wanting will face the wrath of the law.

According to the governor who was represented in the State by Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Ibrahim Ali, charged the state ministry of education to always ensure that, all resources meant at providing an enabling environment for effective teaching and learning at all levels of education are judiciously utilized.

He directed that, State Universal Basic Education Board Should (SUBEB) to immediately embark on a massive monitoring exercise to all schools to ensure that the books reach the pupils who are the end users.

“For the benefit of doubt, I want to assure you that I will personally participate in the monitoring exercise. I want to also request that, all stakeholders indicate interest by assisting in the monitoring and give us regular feedback. Let me strongly warn that, anybody found diverting the books will face the full wrath of the law”, the Governor warned.

Governor Yero therefore urged education stakeholder like; SBMCs, PTAs, Civil Society Organisations and NGOs to play their roles effectively as the have always done.

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary of SUBEB, Sambo Ibrahim said the textbooks allocated to the state by Federal Government will go a long way in assisting to provide enabling environment for effective and efficient service delivery in the schools.

The textbooks are to be further distributed to all primary and junior secondary schools in the 23 local government areas of the state.
