The House of Representatives has called on the Inspector-General of Police to swiftly deploy additional officers to Ambe, located on the outskirts of Gwantu in the Sanga local government area of Kaduna state.
This urgent action is in response to the tragic killings of innocent Nigerians in the area.
The House further called upon the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, and the Department of State Services to collaborate effectively to ensure that those responsible for the incident are swiftly brought to justice.
The House also called on the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to furnish the affected victims with both food and non-food items. Additionally, it mandated the Committees on Police, Army, and Emergency and Disaster Preparedness to ensure that these directives are adhered to.
The resolutions followed a motion of urgent national importance put forward by Honorable Daniel Amos during a plenary session in Abuja.In his motion, Amos highlighted Section 33 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), which guarantees the right to life for every individual, stating that no one should be intentionally deprived of their life.
“It was also observed that Section 41 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), guarantees every Nigerian citizen the right to move freely throughout the country and to reside in any part thereof.
“On Sunday, May 5, 2024, around 7pm, in Ambe, on the outskirts of Gwantu, Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, a tragic incident occurred. Two unidentified gunmen arrived at a birthday celebration venue for their elderly father on two motorcycles. In the ensuing attack, six people lost their lives, and many others sustained injuries.
“It was reported that the local youths bravely apprehended one of the gunmen along with his motorcycle and gun. They handed him over to the soldiers on special duty stationed at Giants.”
