Kaduna Lawmakers tasked on health financing, leadership

The Kaduna State Contributing Health Management Authority (KADCHMA), with support from Save the Children International (SCI) and a Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) the Lafiya project has organized a two days legislative workshop for members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly to enhance their capacities in health financing and leadership.
The two days workshop from 18 to 19 September has its objectives, to gather knowledge and use the information to develop implementable processes, tools, frameworks, and strategic legislative health agenda in the application of legislation functions toward health care strengthening.
Other objective includes the understanding of legislative function and how these functions impact health outcomes.
Speaking at the commencement of the workshop in Abuja on 18th September 2023, the Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Hon. Yusuf Liman opined that for the State to fulfil its responsibilities to the citizens it cannot function in isolation, it needs good governance in terms of policymaking, appropriations, oversight, and accountability mechanisms.
He therefore called on Members of the House to use the opportunity to develop their capacity so that as elected legislators they will be informed of policies and laws that govern the Health system and allocate adequate resources to the Ministry of Health, especially Health financing.
In her remarks, the State Commissioner for Health, Hajia Umma Ahmed, said to guarantee universal access to an essential care package, increase access to health care services, improve the quality of health care delivery, increase demand for health care services, and provide financial access for the vulnerable group, the State Government has launched its Health Care Financing Policy, Strategy, and implementation plan.
