The Labour Party (LP) in Kaduna State has adopted a consensus arrangement to produce its candidates for the 2027 general elections, with Muhammed Rilwanu Lawal emerging as the party’s governorship flagbearer.
The primary election, held in Kaduna during the weekend, was marked by a peaceful atmosphere and strong participation from party members, who gathered to select candidates for various elective positions.
Speaking after the exercise, Chairman of the Labour Party Governorship Election Committee, Dr. Oluwa Femi, described the process as a reflection of the party’s internal cohesion and commitment to democratic principles.
According to him, the successful conduct of the primary demonstrated the ability of party members to work together despite differing opinions and interests.
He maintained that the Labour Party remains the only political platform in Nigeria with a clear ideological foundation focused on the welfare of citizens and inclusive participation.
Former Labour Party governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Jonathan Asake, also commended party members for embracing consensus, noting that the spirit of understanding among aspirants helped avert disputes and ensured a smooth exercise.
Asake said the consensus arrangement was extended beyond the governorship race, with candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly emerging through the same process.
For the Senate, the party selected Abdu Aliyu for Kaduna North Senatorial District, Dr. Yusuf Solomon Danbaki for Kaduna Central Senatorial District and Amos Sheyin for Kaduna South Senatorial District.
The party also produced consensus candidates for several House of Representatives seats, including Yayai Iliya Dadai for Kaura, Saidu James Yakubu for Kagarko, Emmanuel Bala for Kaduna South, Dr. Emmanuel Barau for Makarfi/Kudan, Abubakar Bello for Igabi and Comrade Saratu Larai Shekari for Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency.
Similarly, candidates emerged for various State Assembly constituencies, among them Elisha Isaac (Jama’a), James Yakubu Saidu (Kagarko), Suleiman Umar (Kudan), Garba Emmanuel Bajimai (Lere), Muhammed Sani Aliyu (Makarfi), and Lawal Abdullahi (Kaduna South).
