The Kaduna State Police Command has arraigned 24 suspects before a Magistrate’s Court sitting at NDA Junction, Kaduna, related to the brutal murder of a woman by a mob in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area.
According to a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, the suspects face charges of criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbance, vandalism, destruction of public and police property, and culpable homicide.
The arraignment followed a thorough investigation into the June 21, 2026, incident. Police reported that a violent mob killed the victim after forcibly removing her from police custody at Maraban Jos Division, despite earlier rescue efforts by officers.
During the court session, the case was mentioned and adjourned to July 21, 2026, for further hearing. The court ordered that all 24 suspects be remanded in a correctional facility until the case is decided.
DSP Hassan emphasized that the Command strongly condemns mob action and all forms of jungle justice. He warned that anyone taking the law into their own hands will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Police PRO also disclosed that more than 100 additional suspects are still under investigation for their suspected involvement in the incident. He stated that those found guilty will also be brought to court once investigations are finished.
Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Rabiu, PSC, MNi, assured the public that the Command is dedicated to delivering justice for the victim and maintaining law and order throughout the state. He urged citizens to report criminal activities and grievances through legal channels rather than resort to violence.
The Commissioner highlighted that attacking police stations and forcibly removing suspects from custody are serious crimes that will face strict legal action. He affirmed that the Command will not tolerate any effort to undermine the justice system.
DSP Hassan reiterated that the arraignment of the 24 suspects is part of ongoing efforts to hold offenders accountable and prevent future mob violence. He added that police investigations are ongoing to identify more individuals involved.
The Command urged residents of Maraban Jos and nearby communities to cooperate with investigators by providing credible information to help apprehend other suspects connected to the killing.
