The Kaduna State Police Command has condemned the mob killing of a woman in Maraban Jos, describing the act as barbaric and a direct assault on the rule of law. The police also vowed to prosecute everyone involved.

In a press statement signed by DSP Mansir Hassan, anipr, Police Public Relations Officer for the Kaduna State Police Command, the Command said the incident happened around 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2026.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Maraban Jos received a distress call reporting that a woman was being attacked by a mob over accusations of child theft, with no proof to support the claim.

Responding quickly, the DPO led officers to the scene, rescued the woman, and took her to the police station for safety and investigation. The woman was a native of Maraban Jos.

Despite the rescue, DSP Hassan said a large crowd, numbering hundreds, later stormed and besieged the police station. They overpowered the officers on duty, forcibly removed the woman from custody, killed her, and then set her body on fire.

The Command called the attack criminal and warned that no individual or group has the right to take the law into their own hands.

Several suspects have already been arrested, and a manhunt is underway for others involved. An investigation is ongoing, and the Command assured that all culprits will face justice.
