The Kaduna South Local Government held a two-day validation workshop for its Open Government Partnership (OGP) Local Action Plan on November 21st and 22nd, 2025, with support from the Lafiya-FCDO project.

The primary goal of the workshop was to enhance transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in local governance.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of Kaduna South Local Government, Hon. Rayyan Hussein, welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of the OGP Local Action Plan in promoting good governance and citizen engagement. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to the principles of transparency, accountability, and citizen involvement, pledging to ensure the implementation of OGP standards within the local government.

Dr. Suleyman Tanko, Co-Chair (CSO) of the OGP in Kaduna South Local Government, addressed the attendees, explaining that the local government had developed a vision and action plan for OGP and was seeking input from stakeholders to validate these documents.

Mr. Chanan Solomon, the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Coordinator of the Lafiya Project, praised Kaduna South Local Government for its dedication to OGP, noting that it has become a model for other local government areas.

The workshop was attended by representatives from civil society organizations, the State Ministry of Health, the Primary Health Care Board, and other relevant stakeholders. Participants engaged in discussions and provided valuable input to finalize and ensure the successful implementation of the OGP Local Action Plan.

Organized by the Kaduna South Local Government Steering Committee, the validation workshop received support from the Lafiya Project, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

Prominent figures at the workshop included Hon. Rayyan Hussein, Dr. Suleyman Tanko, Mubarak Abdulganiyi, Civil Society Co-Chair of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) in Kaduna State, and Femi Johnson, who facilitated the presentation of the action plan.

They all emphasized the importance of OGP in enhancing transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in governance.

This workshop marked a significant step toward strengthening governance and promoting citizen engagement in the Kaduna South Local Government, contributing to the development of a more inclusive and responsive administration.
