Critical stakeholders at a 3-day workshop in Zaria, Kaduna State, united for transparency in human capital development financing in the state through citizens’ participatory auditing.
The workshop brought together government ministries, departments, and agencies, accountability mechanisms under Open Government Partnership, the disability community, and local and international partners, including Save the Children International, among others.
This development is a significant step towards promoting transparency and accountability in its capital development financing as it aims to enhance accountability through citizens’ participatory auditing, emphasizing the need for attitudinal change among politicians and citizens.
This initiative was a part of Kaduna State’s broader strategy to foster a culture of transparency and accountability, ultimately driving sustainable development and improved governance.
In his goodwill message on day 1 of the workshop, Kaduna State Auditor General Abubakar Abdullahi hinted that his office is set the groundwork for long-term collaboration on citizen participatory audit in the State.
“There has been a long-term relationship between the civil society organizations in the State. I believe that this gathering will enhance the future of public financial management in the state”, he added.
Chairman House Committee on Public Accounts, Rt Hon. Yusuf Mugu, restated the need for attitudinal change among the political class and citizens alike.
He thanked the civil society and sponsors of the workshop, reiterating the commitment of his committee in terms of transparency in its mandate.
