Kaduna students union refuses to endorse PDP guber candidate

The parliamentary arm of the National Association of Kaduna State Students (NAKASS) has said it will not encourage its members to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the forth coming governorship elections in the state.

Speaking at a press conference after an extra-ordinary meeting convened by the Speaker, Comrade Idi Abdul, the students said they will only allow their members to vote for credible candidate of their choice.

“NAKASS is a non-partisan association and we shall not fold our hands and allow ourselves to be dragged into any political party affair. We shall endeavor to mobilize our members to vote a candidate that will govern for the betterment of our today and the future,” the speaker said.

The student’s parliament said NAKASS received unusual visitors at the secretariat last week Friday with a request to the leadership to endorse PDP and its gubernatorial candidate.

According to him, “It is worthy of note that any same leadership that have worked for the people need not reduce herself or the exalted office of the governor of our dear state to petty beggars. It is on this backlog that we want to dissociate ourselves and our members from any planned endorsement and mobilization for the ruling party in the forth coming election.””Our reasons are that the governor as the chief security officer of our state, have failed to protect lives and properties. Thousands of Kaduna state innocent citizens have lost their loved ones and properties, with the government doing very little to curtail it. The challenge is still been face by many in some quarters,” the group said.

The students disclosed that while the projects of Kaduna State University Teaching Hospital are moving in a snail pace or at a point of stagnation due to acute shortage of funds, medical students are

been held captive for more than the stipulated years of studies.

“The present government has recorded the longest strike action in the history of our state on tertiary institutions and the issues that lead to these strike actions are still unresolved. This implies a looming time bomb of strike waiting our members. Students’ welfare has never been a priority for this government.

“This is obvious compared with the previous ones. Scholarship were often released May/June, but unfortunately, payment of scholarship is now been delayed for over six month and this payment was often made for fear of protest by the members of our association. Our institutions have poor infrastructure, without atmosphere conducive for learning and productivity”, he said.
